These words are attributed to Jesus in John’s Gospel: “I and the Eternal are one” (John 10. 30). Similarly, in the book of Genesis we read, “…in the divine image God created humanity; male and female God created them” (Genesis 1.27).  The psalmist insisted that God was everywhere fully present, that is, God is omnipresent: “Where can I go from your spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up beyond the sky, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths of the earth, you are even there” (Psalm 139.7-8).

If God is omnipresent, then there is “not a spot where God is not.” How could we ever be lost from God? We may not be aware of God’s goodness within us, but the limitation is in our perception, not in the divine omnipresence. For God to be everywhere fully present, then we must be in God, and we must be the means by which God is expressed. We can affirm, “I and the Eternal are one.”

This is the Good News: All that God is, is available to each of us. All that God is, is present with us. All that God is, is part of us. We are like our Source in which we “live and move and have our being” (Acts 17.28). Universal Goodness is our Reality. We don’t always remember that, and we don’t always live in the power of this Truth, but we can always return to it. We can always choose to remember again. We can be empowered and encouraged and uplifted right now by choosing to remember our sacred value. The Love that God is resides in our hearts and always will. As we become aware of this powerful truth, we find more hope, more peace, more happiness, more strength, and more fulfillment; and having found these wonderful treasures within us, we have the truth of these spiritual riches to share with others. All that the Universal is belongs to us; we are like our divine Source. And so it is.
