Q&A by the Reverend Doctor Durrell Watkins, Senior Pastor
Question: Even though I am a confirmed skeptic, I love this church. I thought I had outgrown religion, but I find myself very happy at Sunshine Cathedral. Can you help me reconcile my critical thinking with my newfound love of church?
Answer: I don’t know that there is much to reconcile. If you love us (and what’s not to love?!), then just enjoy being part of something that brings you joy. We do try to offer the best of religion (community, celebration, hope, goodwill, even a little fun) while avoiding some of religion’s historical mistakes; e.g., misogyny, heterosexism, intolerance for religious pluralism, etc. If this has proven to be a safe place to ask questions, to express the reality of who you are, to celebrate your joys and mourn your losses, then simply appreciate the gift that this community is to you. Support it, be grateful for it, and know that you (and your skepticism) are a valuable part of what we are.
