“Let your devotion be like a wood fire that burns steadily for a long time; not like a straw fire that produces a bright flame and quickly dies out.” Paramahansa Yogananda
We all learned from childhood stories that “slow and steady wins the race”. Sometimes we want instant enlightenment: say a prayer, read a book, or hear a sermon and — POOF — we are all wise, full of joy, and certain about all things metaphysical. But that isn’t usually how it works. What is more common is that we make a commitment to a spiritual path and as we honor that commitment, we grow and evolve gradually into a deeper spiritual maturity. As we read spiritual literature, spend time daily in Silence and reflection, worship regularly, and practice generosity, we are building a spiritual fire that burns steadily throughout our lives, giving light and warmth to others as we remain faithful to the journey of spiritual living.
